Public Health Department seeking persons who had contact with rabid bat

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is seeking anyone who may have had contact with a rabid bat that was found at the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Center in Irwindale, CA on Saturday, June 9th.

According to a press release, a group of individuals surrounded the bat for about 30 minutes and, upon testing, it was determined that the bat had rabies. The department urges individuals to call Public Health’s Acute Communicable Disease Control Unit at 213.240.7941, as seeking medical attention after contact with such an animal is vital in determining whether or not rabies preventative treatment is necessary.
